Hempwood® uses new technologies to develop products similar to plastics and wood but with a lot of the Hemp fiber mixed in. On MITech TV, Jeff Cole, from US Hemp Brokerage, and Tony Solano from iHemp Manufacturing, explain the process and showcase some Hemp wood products they have developed.
Hemp, the non-psychoactive cousin of marijuana, has been used to make 20,000 products worldwide, but has only become a new agricultural crop in Michigan since the US Farm Bill was passed in 2018.
Hempwood based in Murray, Kentucky makes a variety of hemp products for the building industry including flooring, panels and boards. Their hemp is grown within 100 miles of their factory. Using patented technology, they make HempWood with full-length fiber hemp stalks and soy-based adhesive. Their boards can be used for shelving, cabinets, and literally any wood product you can imagine!
