4.0 out of 5 stars - Good dystopian read

I voluntarily reviewed this book after receiving a free copy. I've never read the series that inspired this, but the author wrote in such a way it didn't matter. It kinda made me think of a twist on the vaults from a certain video game. The characters were believable and very fleshed out, and the world building was just the perfect amount. There was an excellent balance between history and current events, ensuring the reader could follow motives and the plot. The story was fairly short, but a lot happened during the short read. I enjoyed the amount of detail and thought the author put into this, and the pacing was fast enough to keep the reader engaged while not feeling rushed. I'm already looking into the original series and more stories from this author.

Everything you could want in a WOOL story, great characters, great story, and all set in the confines of a familiar cylindrical setting. This one starts upbeat, with the people of Silo 42 making wonderful improvements to their way of life, keeping them a secret from their far away controllers, who, as we know, do not like change…

Simple but well-done character-building and the interaction between the characters is evidence of superb writing skills. The book comes alive in before you and unfolds into a masterpiece of intrigue. A story set in the future bringing you an idea of what humanity may very well face in the future. For transparency, I got the ARC of this book.
